Midsummer or Summer Solstice

Midzomer

In the northern hemisphere June 21st marks the moment where day triumphs over night.
Midsummer or Summer Solstice is the moment where Sun is at the very height of its life-spending or creative power. It’s also the moment where we can already slowely start to anticipate the return of the cloaking darkness.

But not yet.

First it’s time to celebrate everything bountyful and plentiful.

With my new Seidr course by Mirkrida – School of Seidr I’m learning to connect to Midsummer in different ways as well. I learn its connection with the cardinal direction of the South on the Northwest European wheel of the year, where life force, fire and the sun reign.

Taking North as my starting point in the wheel of the year, Midsummer means we’re exactly halfway through the wheel for this year. For me it is a moment to stand still and reflect. To look back at how far I’ve come and to look forward to catch a glimpse of the path ahead.

My little gift to this special moment is a little power symbol. For this power symbol I used the sun cross or solar cross the represent Sun. I also used Dagaz. Dagaz is closely connected to day and to midsummer, belonging to the element of fire.

(I could say a lot more about this very powerful rune, but I leave that to the professionals. I can highly recommend Freya Aswynn’s Leaves of Yggdrasil. It has been revised, but I don’t own that version yet and so can’t comment on it.)

Tonight I will discover Sun, South and fire by a trance journey focussed on one of my symbols, drawn for this very day and purpose. It’s my little way of honouring and celebrating.
