A wanderer’s journey

When I started The Wyrd a little over over a year ago, I knew that it would be a like a path unfolding right in front of my eyes. I knew my Wyrd would take me places.

I started spinning in January 2021. I dove in head first and learned so very much in a such a short time. Spinning was like creating stories, or forming a framework for stories to unfold.

Soon after I learned how to weave. I started with a rigid heddle loom and quickly after a peg loom for more rustic weaving. After that followed a smaller rigid heddle loom and in the end the herd got expended by a small floor loom (Saori). Using handspun yarn to weave those stories.

My fibre preps, my yarns and some of my woven pieces were directly and indirectly inspired by old Norse and Germanic (folk)lore. There was no clear reason for this, only the feeling of it being ‘right’.

During this year I also started to expand what little knowledge I had of old Norse mythology. Something I had tried years before, but couldn’t find access to. Meaning, I was not able to connect with it. But now that connection was there and very present.

Fast forward to March 2022, where I enrolled in a workshop in ritual handpoke tattooing of power symbols, with a wonderful mentorship that helps me grow further.

To me it felt so clear that the spinning, the weaving, tattooing power symbols by hand in a ritualistic way all belonged together. I also felt that the one thing to bring all this together was missing.

A few weeks ago I went to bed thinking I should try to get more information about working with Seid, a germanic way of working with magic. The next morning I woke up to an e-mail from a Seidr apprentice, out of the blue. This to me was a clear sign and gave me a kickstart on my way to find out more about Seid and Seidr.

April 2022 I enrolled in the Seidr course by Naomi Mirkrida from the Netherlands and I’m ever grateful. Pieces of a very, very large puzzle are starting to fall together. I’m unsure of with this tremendous puzzle will depict but I’m curious to find out.

It feels like I’m taken by my Wyrd’s flow and I’m completely confident and comfortable with this.

Let’s see where this wonderful journey will take me…
